tech  JARED KOLICH

Jared started in the marine industry at an early age. Spending his summers at a remote lodge on Northern Vancouver Island, he maintained a fleet of sport fishing boats. Relocating to the beautiful harbour city of Nanaimo in 2009, Jared enrolled in the Inboard Outboard Pre-Apprenticeship program at Vancouver Island University (VIU). Upon completion he joined the Nanaimo Yacht Services team and is now a certified Inboard/Outboard Mechanic As a result of ongoing training at Stones Boatyard, Jared has also received certification in American Boat and Yacht Council Marine Electrical and Marine Systems, and is also a certified Blue Seas Installer.

tech  BROCK KELSCH

Brock was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, far from any ocean. That changed with stints abroad in Australia and Thailand learning about the dive industry, followed by nearly four years on Grand Cayman, working as Open Water Scuba Instructor, Divemaster and boat skipper. Maintenance of the vessels became part of the day-to-day, and Brock realized there was more to learn – and he loved it!  He moved to Nanaimo to complete the Inboard Outboard Pre-Apprenticeship program at Vancouver Island University (VIU) and worked at a local boat dealer as an Inboard Outboard apprentice for a summer. He then joined the Nanaimo Yacht Services team full-time in the winter season of 2014. He has since switched apprenticeships to the newly designed Marine Mechanical Technician program and attended 10-weeks of training at British Columbia Institute of Technology’s (BCIT) new Motive Power Campus, and has completed over 3000 work-based hours.  He has certification in American Boat and Yacht Council Marine Electrical and Marine Systems. He is also a  NMEA (National Marine Electronics Association) Advanced Marine Electronic Installer.

DEVON NORRIS

Coming from the small Caribbean island of Antigua, Devon is no stranger to the mechanical field, with over 10 years of experience in heavy duty mechanics, and advanced training in diesel, gas and HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) engine systems. He earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Antigua State College and previously worked for Wärtsilä, which manufactures and services power sources and other equipment in the marine and energy markets. His transition into the marine world comes as no surprise as he has always had a huge interest and fascination for boats. Finally now having the opportunity to work on and around boats at Stones Boatyard. Devon, in his words “I can never seem to find a dull moment around the boatyard, and I’m always looking forward to a new challenge, where I’m forced to put my skills to the test while learning new things every day”. Automotive Mechanical Systems, City & Guilds qualification

DAVE KOCH

Dave, has worked all over the Lower Mainland as a fibreglass and plastic molding technician in different industries, including building special effects props in the film industry for 15 years. He learned to sail in 1975 and now lives on his boat. He joined the Nanaimo Yacht Services team in March 2015. He loves the family atmosphere of Stones Boatyard and his favourite part of the job is seeing the smile on a customer’s face at the end of a job he’s completed.
